The Green Key Armenia project focuses on fostering sustainable tourism practices among accommodations and small-to-medium hotels in four key regions: Lori, Tavush, Shirak, and Gegharkunik. The ultimate goal is to promote tourism growth that benefits the environment, local communities, and the economy.
Transforming Hospitality Through Sustainability
Through the Green Key initiative, ISSD has officially launched the certification process in Armenia, providing comprehensive support to local hospitality establishments. This program encourages businesses to implement effective waste management, minimize their environmental footprint and actively engage employees and guests in environmental protection and sustainability education and focuses on fostering sustainable tourism practices among accommodations and small-to-medium hotels in four key regions: Lori, Tavush, Shirak, and Gegharkunik.
The overall objective of the project is to increase the adoption of eco-friendly practices among hospitality businesses in the selected regions and to promote the stakeholders to obtain sustainability certification By promoting these practices, the Green Key certification not only seeks to preserve Armenia’s natural and cultural heritage but also aims to enhance the global competitiveness of the local hospitality sector. Furthermore, it inspires stakeholders to embrace sustainability and environmental responsibility, contributing to a more sustainable future for Armenia.
Expected Outcome
- Equip 20-30 tourism professionals with the knowledge to implement eco-friendly practices, aiming for a 10-30% increase in sustainable operations.
- Assist 20-30 businesses in creating tailored sustainability plans that align with Green Key standards.
- Raise awareness about Green Key practices and sustainability certification and its importance for the hospitality industry;
- Develop a comprehensive case study showcasing the financial and environmental advantages of adopting sustainable practices.
