Fests Go Green
Improper waste management is one of the biggest issues that Armenia faces nowadays. “Fests Go Green” aims towards waste management and public education during festivals organized Armenia.
Areni Wine Fersival
The first/pilot “Fests Go Green” project was organised for Areni Wine Festival in October 7, 2017. In total twenty-five specially designed bins were placed throughout the festival – in the main square, in the winemakers’ showcase area, in rest zones and few on the roads. Each bin had four sections for plastic, paper, glass, and other waste. Our volunteers were next to every bin – helping and explaining the visitors the necessity of recycling.

The Need
Having attended previous editions of the festivals with great enjoyment, we could not help but notice the only blemish in an otherwise beautiful experience: the lack of adequate waste management and recycling.
Trainings
Two trainings were organized by ISSD team. The first training was with the local high school students and the second one with the volunteers of the project. All trainees were introduced to Fests Go Green project and basics of proper waste management and recycling.
Results
Around 2000 plastic bottles, 300 glass bottles and 50 metallic cans got second life. Plastic and aluminium bottles were sent to recycling stations, glass bottles were distributed to winemakers to reduce the use of plastic bottles for the home made wine.
