As Armenia continues to develop as a country, attention has been increasing toward the relationship of educational access and absence of resources in the country’s rural communities. While majority of opportunities (vocational, educational, etc.) are concentrated in the urban environments of Armenia, we want to focus our efforts toward bringing educational resources to less attended rural communities.

Most schools and community centers outside of Armenia’s urban environments have little to no access to books. This presents a major barrier for children of rural families to achieve literacy and access further educational and vocational opportunities later in their lives.

By creating a platform in the scope of “Better World Books Literacy Grant” through which children, their families, their schools, and their community centers can access literary material, we believe we can create a long lasting impact on their futures. Enabling access to this material is the first step to increasing literacy rates, with positive intrapersonal effects such as the development of confidence and proactivity.

Additionally, we address the concept of reuse through our book sharing platform. By facilitating means for people to give a new life to items they no longer need, they can avoid disposing them in an unsustainable matter. With sharing, everyone wins.

The main goal of “Share a book” project is to establish an online platform where people from around Armenia can both donate a book to those in need or exchange books with fellow participants of the community. We expect to service two distinct populations through this platform. The first being that of people who cannot financially access books for themselves nor their children. The second being that of book-lovers, who are eager to exchange books.

Our team has created an interactive website, where individuals and organizations (e.g. schools, orphanages, community centers, etc.) can register to donate books.
